History:
A familiar sight widely associated with the German Panzergrenadiers, the Sd.Kfz. 251 has its roots traced back to the Sd.Kfz. 11, an unarmored half-track designed to transport infantry support weapons. The Wehrmacht realized they needed armored personnel carriers to allow the infantry to keep pace with the Panzer Divisions. Around 4650 Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. A, B, and C were produced between 1939 to 1943.
The Sd.Kfz. 251 became a versatile platform for various field modifications and weapon systems, which allowed the half-track to fill significant roles left vacant by the steady depletion of forces. Overall, the Sd.Kfz. 251 was a very successful vehicle the German Army never had enough of as well as an iconic vehicle affiliated with the most elite German forces during WWII.
